One of the Ag Center’s most popular programs is a day in the “Island Creek School.”
Students experience attending a rural American school set in 1919. The day’s activities
include writing with dippers and ink, recitations, an old-fashioned spelling bee
and ciphering contest, using slates and slate pencils, and a moral lesson from a
McGuffey Reader. A geography and history lesson relate the time period to students.
The class is led by an experienced staff person trained as a living history school
marm or master. Pre-visit materials are included to prepare your class.

in a variety of high-touch activities. The groups enjoy lunch together on the town
